Thomson-East Coast Line
Singapore’s sixth MRT line, the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL), spans 43km and incorporates 32 new stations into the current rail network. With seven interchange stations, it seamlessly connects to all five existing MRT lines. The TEL’s phased opening began in 2020, with full operational capacity expected by 2024. Initially, it’s projected to cater to around 500,000 daily commuters, a number forecasted to increase to approximately one million in the long run.
Beyond improving connectivity among the north, central, and eastern sectors of Singapore, the TEL bolsters the resilience of the city-state’s rail network. By offering alternative travel routes, it enhances reliability for commuters across other lines.
The Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL) will improve accessibility for residents in the eastern region and along the North-South Corridor by providing them with closer proximity to a train station, thereby granting quicker access to the city center.
Commuters will experience a reduced travel time of 35 minutes from Woodlands South to Orchard on the TEL, in contrast to the current 50-minute journey via bus and MRT.
Anticipate expanded route choices with eight interchanges connecting to all major lines: the East-West Line (EWL), North-South Line (NSL), North East Line (NEL), Circle Line (CCL), Downtown Line (DTL), and the Cross Island Line (CRL). Upon full completion, the TEL is projected to serve approximately 1 million commuters daily, alleviating congestion on the East-West and North-South Lines.
Norwood Grand is within 6 minutes walking distance to Woodlands South Station of TEL, providing future residents greater connectivity around the Island.
